I was born on the 23rd September 1987, at Kapkechui in Nandi District, Rift Valley province in Kenya. I am a third born in a family of eight; four girls and four boys. My family’s clan is Ongen, with the elephant as a totem. My parents are Mrs. Everlyne Lelei and the late John Lelei. My mother is just a housewife and my father was a Veterinary Officer. He died in February 2004.
At the age of four I started my schooling at Kapkechui Pre- School, which took two years i.e. one year in nursery A and one in nursery B. I then joined Kapkechui primary until I finished class eight. In primary, I used to like school debates, hide and seek, netball and walking race. I was also a soloist in music classes. Moreover, I liked reciting poems and performing during the music festivals. The school was a catholic sponsored and I liked being a liturgical dancer. I also used to go to Kapketui Catholic Church.
I did my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2001. I scored 370 marks out of 500. I was the best pupil in our school and the best girl in the zone. This saw me to St. Josephs Girls High School Chepterit. I did my KCSE in 2005 and attained an aggregate of A plain. It had been my dream to pursue a career in medicine. I hope to join Bryn Mawr College in the United States, a women’s college with a serene environment for learning.
